Aging or ageing represents changes in a human body over time, includes physical, psychological, and social change. Ageing is among the many known risk factors for most human diseases. Roughly 150,000 people who die each day across the globe, about two thirds die from age-related causes.
The causes of aging or ageing are not well understood, theories of damage at cellular and nuclear level, where the accumulation of internally or externally induced oxidation process may lead to the failure or dysfunction of biological systems and processes. This concept is accepted by most of the biologists. This may lead to the changes in physical and mental health, at physical level it may lead to the weakness and disease and at mental level it may lead to various psychological and emotional problems. Anti aging or anti ageing concept is to decrease the effects or delay the effects of natural aging process and improving health and fitness.
Aging or ageing is a continuous process and it starts with the birth, this process is continuously going on in our body, for example cells lining our skin, cells lining our digestive tract, respiratory tract, urinary tract all are being replaced by newer cells once or twice in few weeks. So at cellular level ageing is going on, with due course of time it reflects on our body. So this process of aging or ageing is the normal natural phenomenon of our body. Right this time when you are reading this many cells are dying and being replaced by the newer younger cells in your body.
The discovery, in 1934, that calorie restriction can extend lifespan twofold in rats, and the existence of potentially immortal species such as Hydra, have motivated research into delaying and preventing ageing and thus age-related diseases. So many studies have been conducted since then. Recently stem cell studies and newer understandings of genes has opened doors of new hopes for our better understanding of this process of aging. The following three simple tips are important in prevention and lowering the effects of aging on our physical and mental health.
- Water – Yes, it has been noted that with increase in our chronological age, we decrease the water intake, in fact the requirement of water is increased but our intake decreased, so it becomes a paradox. It is necessary to maintain proper consumption of water to maintain adequate hydration. It is necessary to drink 8-10 glasses of water in 24 hours. Avoid beverages like coffee, aerated drinks etc.
- Food – Food rich in antioxidants like lemon, colored vegetables, green vegetables and fruits can be included in daily diet. (For detail go to “food as medicine” and “antioxidants”). Scientific studies have shown that certain food habits and food based on herbs have direct effect on decreased effects of aging and longevity in certain communities all over the world. So increase fiber contents of your diet and decrease calories for longevity.
- Exercise – Daily routine of doing exercise is very important to keep your systems fit. Walking is the best exercise, don’t make the things too complicated. Simple yoga exercise and daily walking for minimum 30-40 minutes can keep you fit physically as well as mentally. (For details go to Exercise.)
So these are the three important tips for ant aging or anti ageing, nowadays there a number of products available in market which are very costly with a number of exercises which many times do harm than good, since we try to follow them without consultation so these three things are easy and scientific. Again it is necessary to understand that the numerical age is only a number, it is our psychology and our thought process which counts.
